The Bachar Houli Foundation Employment Program is an initiative designed to provide employment and professional development opportunities, mentors, and networks in the sporting industry for young Muslims across Australia.
The program is designed to offer young Muslims career opportunities in the sporting industry by providing twelve-month traineeships. Each trainee is supported by a mentoring program and an employment transition plan.
The program aims to address the comparatively high unemployment rate in Australian Muslim youth and the lack of Muslim representation in the sporting industry while adding valuable job-ready skills and professional development to its participants.
Since its inception, the program has seen over 80 trainees work across the sporting industry via traineeships at the AFL – including five of its state bodies – Carlton FC, Western Bulldogs, Melbourne Victory, GWS Giants and the Richmond Football Club.
The Employment Program has been successful in transitioning 45% of the trainees to full-time employment.
